Doc Nelson, started his radio career as an intern at KBZY in 1962 while still in High School. Before he could enter his chosen career, he spent three years in the U.S. Army. During Basic Training, Doc got a small part in the movie "Soldier In The Rain". After his discharge, Doc went to work for KMPX-FM in San Francisco. The first underground rock station on the West Coast. While in San Francisco, Doc MC'd several events including the 1966 Teenage Worlds Fair as well as the Beatles concert at Candlestick Park.
Upon his return to Oregon, Doc went to work at KGAY in Salem. Soon after Doc left radio to work in retail. The call of radio never left him, he returned to KROW in Dallas, Oregon. Doc later moved to morning drive announcer at KSLM. Doc got the chance to purchase KSLM along with other investors. After a few years, KSLM was sold and Doc returned to retail.
Once radio is in your blood, you never lose the desire. In November 2004, Doc made his move back to KBZY working in sales, and loving every minute of it.
Doc and his wife Cathy have three grown children, nine grandchildren and one great grandson. Doc loves golf & fishing.
